Session: Read the Story: What a Nonprofit's Financials Are Really Telling You
Description: Every set of nonprofit financials tells a story about an organization's stability, its risks, and how well it's being led — but only if you know where to look. And for a for-profit-trained reader, the most important signals are exactly the ones that don't behave the way you'd expect. Through real statements and recent cases, we'll read past the totals — into the restrictions, the liquidity, the revenue concentrations, and the overhead ratio everyone misreads to trace where a big net-asset number hides an organization that can't make payroll, where a footnote quietly confesses how many months of runway are left, and where a financial-literacy gap on a board becomes a governance failure. You'll leave reading nonprofit financials like someone who knows where the bodies are buried.
